| You can diagnose this issue quickly with a simple test: Bypass the Float Switch (Piggyback Plug Test):- Most standard sump pumps (e.g., Zoeller M53/M98) use a piggyback plug system where the float switch plugs into the wall, and the pump plugs into the back of the switch.
- Unplug the pump from the float switch plug and plug the pump cord directly into the wall outlet.
- If the motor runs immediately, your float switch is defective and needs replacement.
- If the motor makes no sound, hums without spinning, or trips the circuit breaker, the motor/capacitor has failed, and the unit requires replacement.
