Description

RN Series 4EC-3 Inline Radon Fan (555 CFM) is designed for use with 3" schedule 40 PVC pipe.

Rn4EC-3Radon Fan is the most powerful product on the market for active radon mitigation applications where high suction and high flow are required. It is an excellent solution for high radon levels, poor sub-slab communication, multiple suction points and/or large sub slab footprint.

Features:

  • Designed specifically for Active Soil Depressurization (ASD) mitigation applications
  • High Suction, High Flow
  • Dial your suction in with a built-in speed control
  • Two soft anti-vibration couplers included
  • Set up for a 3” PVC pipe
  • For residential and commercial applications
  • Air-tight housing - zero leakage
  • UV resistant plastic housing
  • UL Listed for safety and outdoor use
  • HVI certified fan performance
  • 5-year factory warranty

Rn4EC-3 can create 4.75” of suction while moving 20 cfm, or moving from 125 to 200 cfm when operating at only 0.5” of suction.

Inherently efficient and operationally stable at full and reduced speeds, Rn 4EC-3 fan arms the radon professional with installation methods not previously practical. Integrated control system allows for “dialing in” the fan speed necessary to achieve either the required sub-slab depressurization or required system air flow rate.

Manufactured from two molded plastic pieces seamlessly joined together. It is inherently and permanently airtight ensuring no Radon gas leakage. A large watertight electrical wiring enclosure ensures electrical installation quick and simple. Fan motor is thermal overload protected with automatic reset and can be installed both indoors or outdoors. Two anti-vibration couplers are included with the fan.

Why Choose the Fantech RN4EC-3 for Your Radon Mitigation System

Ideal Use Cases

The RN4EC-3 is engineered for the most demanding radon mitigation scenarios. Consider this fan when your home has:

  • Elevated radon readings (well above the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L) requiring stronger vacuum and airflow
  • Poor sub-slab communication — meaning the soil beneath the foundation doesn't allow air to move freely between suction points, requiring extra suction power to depressurize the whole slab
  • A large basement or slab footprint where a single, more powerful fan is more effective and less costly than installing multiple smaller fans
  • Multiple suction points feeding into one central fan
  • A crawlspace combined with a basement, requiring higher flow capacity to manage both spaces simultaneously

Built-In Speed Control: A Key Advantage

Unlike fixed-speed radon fans, the RN4EC-3 features an adjustable dial that lets an installer fine-tune performance after the system is in place. This means:

  • The fan can be "dialed in" to hit the exact sub-slab pressure or airflow rate your specific home requires
  • If initial post-installation testing shows radon levels aren't low enough, suction can be increased without swapping out the fan
  • Running at reduced speed when full power isn't needed can lower energy consumption and noise

Construction and Durability

  • Air-tight, two-piece molded plastic housing — permanently sealed to prevent any radon gas leakage back into living spaces
  • UV-resistant housing rated for safe outdoor installation, in addition to attic, garage, or basement mounting
  • Thermally protected motor with automatic reset — the fan safely shuts down and restarts if it overheats, rather than failing permanently
  • Large watertight wiring enclosure for straightforward, weatherproof electrical connections
  • UL Listed and HVI certified, confirming both safety compliance and verified performance data

Installation Considerations

Because the RN4EC-3 is a high-suction, high-flow unit, correct installation matters more than with smaller fans. Our licensed technicians will evaluate:

  1. Sub-slab conditions — soil permeability and slab size to determine suction point placement
  2. Duct routing — sizing and layout of the 3" schedule 40 PVC piping for maximum efficiency
  3. Fan placement — typically in an unconditioned attic or exterior location to minimize noise
  4. Speed calibration — dialing in the correct suction level based on post-installation radon testing
  5. Code compliance — ensuring exhaust termination height and location meet local and EPA/AARST guidelines

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the RN4EC-3 too powerful for a typical home?
Not necessarily — its adjustable speed control means it can be dialed down for standard homes while still providing extra capacity if radon levels turn out higher than expected.

Can it be installed outdoors?
Yes, the UV-resistant housing and UL outdoor-use listing make exterior installation possible, which is common to reduce indoor noise.

How is fan speed adjusted after installation?
Our technicians calibrate the built-in speed dial during installation and can readjust it if follow-up radon testing shows levels need to be lowered further.
