We recommended to flush your water heater once a year.
Regular flushing helps remove sediment and mineral build-up, which can affect the efficiency and lifespan of the heater.

The general process is: drain the tank, refill partially, add a calculated amount of bleach, let it sit (often several hours), then fully flush and drain multiple times to clear the bleach out completely before using the water again. Getting this sequence wrong can leave chlorine in your water supply longer than intended.
  • Ventilation and safety matter. If you're working with a gas water heater, you need to be careful around the pilot light and burner assembly while draining/refilling.
  • It doesn't always fix the root cause.
