How do you extend your water heater lifespan ?

- add an expansion tank
- regularly inspect gas lines
- test the pressure relief valve
- check the anode rod  condition
- perform annual maintenance
- install water softener or full house filtration system
- insulate the body of the water heater with thermal jacket
- use vacation mode when you are out for a long time

Is expansion tank needed for a water heater? I am planning to install a new water heater and want to add an expansion tank.

An expansion tank is crucial for protecting your new water heater and plumbing system.

 Here's why:
  • Thermal Expansion: When water is heated, it expands. In a closed plumbing system, this expansion can create significant pressure buildup.
  • Pressure Relief: An expansion tank acts as a buffer, absorbing the excess water caused by thermal expansion. This prevents excessive pressure on the water heater and plumbing components.
  • Damage Prevention: Without an expansion tank, the pressure buildup can lead to:
  • Leaky pipes
  • Water heater failure
  • Damage to other plumbing fixtures
  • Increased water consumption due to leaks

Expansion tank is a small investment that can save you from significant costs and headaches down the line.
